On Tuesday, Jan. 8, two Ramsey County Commissioners will pass the torch to their replacements. Commissioner Tony Bennett will do a hand-off to Blake Huffman, who will be sworn in by Judge Joanne Smith.
Commissioner Jan Parker will do a hand-off to Mary Jo McGuire, who will be sworn in by Judge Kathleen Gearin. Commissioner Victoria Reinhardt will be sworn in to another term by Judge J. Thomas Mott.
It’s the end of an era, truly. Bennett, a former state lawmaker, St. Paul beat cop and U.S. Marshal, spent 16 years on the county board. The Scoop caught up with him on Monday, Jan. 7, in the lobby of the county board offices, signing his termination papers. “Don’t worry,” he told a staffer as he laid down his John Hancock. “I’ll surface somewhere.”
