Still undecided about the elections? Maybe you need some religion.
On either side of the Mississippi, the forces of social liberalism and conservatism have organized free, public viewing events this Saturday, Nov. 3, for two documentaries that are sure to inflame their opponents. What do these films have in common? Think: “Church.”
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Minneapolis, former “3-Minute Egg” video host and Pioneer Press reporter Matt Peiken is airing his new documentary, “God Votes No,” at the Trylon Microcinema. Admission is free.
The cinema is located at 3258 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis. More info. about the event, here: https://www.facebook.com/events/298383293599307.
Peiken, a self-described “straight, liberal, atheist Jew,” went on an interviewing spree, talking to members of various faiths who will be voting “No” against the marriage amendment on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The interfaith interviews include Mormon members of the rock band Low, rabbis, clergy, a young lesbian who turned away from and then back to God, and others.
Not to be outdone, the St. Paul Republican City Committee on Saturday is airing conservative writer Dinesh D’Souza’s documentary, “2016: Obama’s America,” at Faith Baptist Church, 1365 Westminster St., on St. Paul’s East Side. The free showing begins at 7 p.m.
The Republican City Committee has posted info. and driving directions, here: http://saintpaulrepublicans.us/blog/2012/11/01/2016-obamas-america-free-screening-november-3rd-7pm-at-faith-baptist-church/
The film, which is based on D’Souza’s best seller, offers the tag line: “Love him, hate him. You don’t know him.”
(The Scoop points out that the same tag line could apply to Republican candidate Mitt Romney, Libertarian Gary Johnson, or the Green Party’s Dr. Jill Stein, but whatever…)
